# Indicative quotes

> A quote is a priced snapshot: what we'd offer for this deal today. It isn't a price lock or a commitment.

When you create a quote, we price the deal once, store the result and give it an id. From then on the quote doesn't change.

* **`GET /v1/quotes/{id}` never re-prices.** It returns the stored snapshot. What changes over time is only what people do with it: `status`, `selected_option_id` and `interest`.
* **A changed fact means a new quote.** A different premium, a corrected minimum earned or an added policy: quote again. Quotes are cheap, and many quotes for one deal is normal.
* **Quotes expire** 30 days after they're created, at `expires_at`. After that, create a new one.

## Not a price lock

Our quotes are **indicative**. The final terms are set when your broker prices the deal in the Bridgeline portal and the insured signs the premium finance agreement. They usually match the quote, and can differ if market rates move or the facts of the deal change, for example when the binder shows a different premium.

The interactive page says the same thing to your client: "Indicative, priced on \[date], valid until \[date]. Not an offer of credit; final terms are confirmed in your financing agreement."

## What's in the price

* **The APR includes your agency's spread.** The figures in every option are what the borrower pays.
* **Each option stays under the APR limit** for the insured's state (17.9% in Texas). Where your spread would push an option over it, we reduce the spread for that option and set `spread_clamped: true`. Where even that isn't enough, the option is left out.
* **The totals add up to the cent.** `down_payment + total_of_payments = total_cost`, exactly.
* **Every tax and fee is financed.** `totals.total` is premium plus taxes and fees, and the down payment is a share of that total.

## A quote is not an application

A quote doesn't appear in your brokers' pipeline in the portal and doesn't start a deal. Today, when your client says yes, your broker starts the application in the Bridgeline portal. Turning an accepted quote into an application through the API is [on the roadmap](/roadmap).
